Every year Phi Theta Kappa allows students to nominate faculty members for the Faculty of the Year award. The individual with the most votes will be honored at graduation. All faculty may be nominated, including librarians and counselors, but once a faculty member has been given this award they are not eligible to receive it for three years. The faculty who have won this award most recently are Bob Iwan and Pat Lawton.

Nominate Employees for Outstanding Service to Students Award

Students are invited to nominate employees for an award for Outstanding Service to Students (other than teaching). Nominations should be made on the form at this link: Outstanding Service to Students Award. Include a description of the outstanding service provided by the employee(s), and submit it to Human Resources no later than Friday, April 17, 2015.

The College Executive Team (President, three Vice Presidents, Associate Vice President of Strategic Initiatives, Marketing Director, and Human Resources Director) will select the awardee(s) and make the award at the annual Employee Recognition event on April 30.

Job Search Conference: Friday, April 10th from 9:00 am to 2:30 pm in Heritage Hall 203

Are you graduating and need to get ready to apply all you have learned and experienced to get a job? The Center for Experiential Learning at Inver Hills Community College invites you to the Backpack to Briefcase Conference, Friday, April 10th, 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m., Heritage Hall 203.   At this conference you will prepare, practice and get feedback from hiring professionals and alumni on the essential steps for getting a job. Some of the breakout sessions will be:

  • Developing a Job Target and Where to Find the Jobs
  • Communicating the Value of Your Liberal Arts Degree and Skills Employers Seek
  • Targeting Your Resume
  • Interview Do’s and Don’ts
  • Dress for Success – business attire fashion show
  • Networking Lunch with hiring professionals and alumni

You will also receive a resume critique and feedback on interview skills from hiring professionals and a free LinkedIn headshot.

ATTENTION GRADUATING STUDENTS

Graduating students interested in speaking at the 2015 commencement ceremony on May 14, 2015 should submit an outline of a four-minute speech to Scott Klaehn, Director of Enrollment Services, by 4:30 pm on Monday, April 20.  You may email your proposed speech to sklaehn@inverhills.edu or drop it off at the Enrollment Center, located on the upper level of the College Center building.

Community Garden Opportunities!

Inver Hills Community College-Metropolitan State University Interdisciplinary Community Garden and Orchard will officially open for the 2015 season on Saturday, May 9!

We will be starting seeds, marking plots and pruning trees starting this Friday, 3/27. Anyone interested in helping out can come by on any Friday, between 9:30 and 5:30 pm.

For those of you who would like an individual plot in the garden, this year the application and payment process will be simpler, and entirely online (stay tuned for link). You can mark your calendars for our gardener orientation meeting: Friday, April 24, 6:30 pm in Heritage Hall.

Star Alert Emergency Notification System

StarAlert is Inver Hills Community College’s emergency notification system for students and employees. The system used is Blackboard Connect. It can send e-mail, text and voice messages if the appropriate contact details are provided in a StarAlert portal account. Every student and employee is strongly encouraged to personalize their emergency notification settings. Instructions for students and employees are available for creating a StarAlert portal account and setting communication preferences.

All students and employees will receive StarAlert messages through basic settings created by the college. Students will have messages sent to their personal e-mail address in E-services. Employees will have messages sent to their college-issued e-mail address. To take full advantage of StarAlert you are strongly encouraged to create and use your StarAlert portal account to manage your emergency notification preferences.

In the event of an emergency, StarAlert messages will briefly identify the nature of the emergency, what action you should take, and where to find additional information. StarAlert will be used to announce unexpected campus closures or other situations like weather conditions that will cause classes to be delayed or cancelled. It will not be used to announce individual class section cancellations due to teacher illness or similar reasons.
