Inver Hills Community College and Metropolitan State University students are partnering for a community event designed to provide healthy foods for community residents in the Dayton’s Bluff area. Our goal is to prepare over 50-100 fresh apple piesand we need your help in harvesting apples and making the pies.

Sunrise River Farm has agreed to donate the apples used for the pies (www.sunriseriverfarm.com). Our apple picking date will be Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 1:00 pm. Once the apples have been picked we will wash, peel and prepare them for the pies on two (2) dates:

Thursday, September 25, 2014 and Thursday, October 2, 2014 both at 11:00 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Saint Paul (http://lovegrowshere.net/). Volunteers please meet in the community kitchen located in the community center. Once pies are baked they will be distributed to community members during their community dinner (6:00 pm). Needed items for the pie baking event include pie tins, rolling pins, pastry sheets, sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, flour, milk, and butter (Please let me know if you will be bringing these items – you can bring these items with you to the kitchen).

We Need Your Help! Please contact Barb Curchack (BCurcha@inverhills.mnscu.edu) or August Hoffman (august.hoffman@metrostate.edu) to let us know if you intend to help out on either date.

Thank you for your help!
