  • Originally from Washington, Missouri, Maggie Nead, 17, of Woodbury, Minnesota, is a Woodbury High School graduate, class of 2016. Maggie is a sophomore at Inver Hills earning her Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree.Maggie plans to transfer to the University of Wisconsin-Madison to double-major in international relations and political science. Her career goals are centered on joining the U.S. Foreign Service to become a diplomat and ultimately the U.S. ambassador to a French-speaking nation.She enjoys singing; her time is consumed by coursework and advocacy duties.

About the Role of Student Senate Vice President

The Executive Board of the Student Senate is comprised of  the Student Senate President, Vice President, Director of Communications, Treasurer, and Legislative Director.  As a whole, the Executive Board:

  • Is responsible for implementing all decisions made by the Student Senate
  • Notifies the faculty and administration of any student concerns as deemed necessary
  • Sets the agenda and for Student Senate meetings
  • Presents separate officer reports at all regularly scheduled meetings.
  • Attend and lead leadership workshops and trainings
  • Executive Board members will receive a stipend based each semester upon completion of their duties

The Duties of the Vice President (as outlined in the Student Senate Bylaws)

  • Shall assume the role of the Presidency in the absence of the President.
  • If the President leaves the office, the Vice President shall succeed the Presidency upon his/her resignation or removal for the remainder of the term. Should the Vice President decline the Presidency, the Student Senate will hold an election.
  • Assist the President as needed.
  • Shall chair and be responsible for the Outreach Committee.
  • Shall reserve a room for all meetings and coordinate other meeting requirements.
  • Work with Student Life to:
    • Sanction student clubs and organizations.
    • Be available to assist clubs and organizations in their programs and activities.
    • Shall collect and file minutes from clubs and organizations
    • Present leadership programs and organizational programs as needed.
  • Why You Became A Student Leader: “I went to my first Student Senate meeting because my political science professor was offering extra credit. I stayed because I saw the value in it. I saw the importance of making sure that student concerns are always at the front of people’s minds. We want to make sure that, in a higher education setting, the students come first.”

PTK MEMBERSHIP PROCESS

1.) Qualify for Membership

Students who complete at least 12 college-level credits, earn a 3.5 semester GPA in at least one semester, and who maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 qualify for membership. If you are not sent an invitation to join contact ptk@inverhills.edu.

2.) Invitations Sent

Invitation emails and letters are sent to eligible students after the second week of fall and spring semester each year. The invitation will include instructions and your individual passcode needed to join.

3.) Join Online

Members pay a one-time membership fee and join using your passcode. If this fee is preventing you from joining instead apply for membership using our membership fee waiver application

4.) Induction and Get Involved!

We host an induction ceremony each semester. You must sign up to be inducted. Find out more by joining our meeting or take a look at our event calendar at inverhills.edu/ptk
